HYBYCOZO

HYBYCOZO is the collaborative studio of artists Serge Beaulieu and Yelena Filipchuk. Based in Los Angeles, the work consists of larger than life geometric sculptures, often with pattern and texture that draw on inspirations from mathematics, science, and natural phenomena. Typically illuminated, the work celebrates the inherent beauty of form and pattern and represents their ongoing journey in exploring the myriad dimensions of geometry. HYBYCOZO is short for the Hyperspace Bypass Construction Zone, a nod to their favorite novel (The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy) and was the title of their first installation in 2014. They continue to create under this name.

In 2023, The Crystal Bridges Museum of American art commissioned Congruence for their outdoor collection. The same year, the Ulirich museum acquired Stratosphere. Alongside Stratum in Ankara Turkey for the State Department’s art in embassies program, their work is now presented alongside that of James Turrell, Buckminister Fuller, Leo Villareal, Andy Goldsworthy, and Alice Ayock. In spring of 2024 their biggest installation to date will open alongside Bruce Monro’s filed of light at Sensorio in California while later in 2024 they will have a solo exhibit at the prestigious Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix AZ.

With permanent public artworks in Dubai, Istanbul, Las Vegas, Sacramento, New Zealand, and the SF Bay Area, they have shown globally in Singapore, London, Brazil, Australia, and Canada while having exhibited with institutions such as The Smithsonian, The Cincinnati Museum of Art, The Oakland Museum of California, The Ulrich Museum of Art, Crystal Bridges, and The Sharjah Museam of Art in the UAE. They have also presented work at Burning Man from 2014-2022, including 2019 when they were chosen as the first artists to design the central man pavilion.
